Following her passion for travel and food, London-based Angie Silver travels the world documenting life’s finer things in her blog, Silverspoon London. The Silver Executive Club Member shares her travel plans past and present, and explains what luxury really means to her

Why did you join the Executive Club?
I joined five years ago because my husband encouraged me to get the British Airways American Express Card due to the companion vouchers. He hasn’t got to Bronze yet, but as I’m Silver I can take a guest into the lounge, which helps when we travel together.

Inset 1 - Castilla la Mancha Spain

Which destination is next on your list?
I’m flying to Madrid this summer for a trip into the Spanish countryside (pictured). I’ll also be visiting Iceland

Where do you go to escape the crowds?
I love the British countryside. I recently stayed at Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire. Usually when you go to an English country house it’s all about long walks or the spa, but there’s so much more to do here: you can go horse riding, there’s a cinema, a cooking school and boating on the lake.

What kind of traveller are you?
My style is definitely luxury, but everyone has their own definition of it. Some see it as hotels with marble bathrooms and 24-hour room service, but for me it’s about those incredible experiences you can’t get anywhere else – whether it’s a hotel in Thailand that’s part of an elephant sanctuary, or the only hotel at Ayers Rock where every room has a view of Uluru.

Inset 2 - Cape Town

The most inspiring destination you’ve visited?
I cried when I had to leave South AfricaCape Town (pictured) has everything: beaches, amazing scenery, incredible food and beautiful boutique hotels, plus it’s only a 45-minute drive to Winelands.

What’s your must-pack item?
My camera(s). My main one is a Nikon D750, but I also have a Canon PowerShot G7 X for vlogging, and a water-resistant GoPro camera. The more you get into blogging and photography, the more equipment you need. I’m also thinking about buying a drone…

Inset 3 - Giraffe Manor

Most memorable hotel stay?
It’s become quite famous recently, but Giraffe Manor (pictured) in Kenya was really special because you can feed giraffes during breakfast and afternoon tea. You only need to stay one night, but it’s a one-of-a-kind experience.

What’s the best thing about being a Member?
We use our Avios for nearly all our long-haul flights. Last year we flew to Kenya and Japan in First. You have to be quite flexible on where you want to go and dates, but it’s easy to book a reward flight.
