Hand luggage heroes

Flying home for Christmas? The Club asked a trusted panel of fashion experts, style gurus and travel editors to share the nifty gifts that they pack in their cabin bags to guarantee smiles when they touch down

Candles are the perfect size for your hand luggage. Founded in Normandy in 1643, Cire Trudon became the official candle supplier to the French Court (and Napoleon Bonaparte). Timeless and classy, the candles are still the same exceptional quality you would expect today.

For a quintessentially British winter warmer, head to Bicester Village’s British Wool Collective pop-up, where you’ll find some of the best woolly items and hero jumpers from brands including Brora, John Smedley, and Chinti and Parker (jumper pictured below, £130). For my daughters, I pick up sweets that they can’t get in the UK. I found green tea KitKats in Asia, which seemed to go down well. They also like novelty gifts, from a Mexican wrestling mask to a flipflop-shaped key ring from the Philippines.

I love Lush handmade cosmetics. They do a fantastic range of solid shampoo and conditioner bars, which are perfect for your cabin bag. All of their soaps, skincare and haircare products are lovely, but I’d particularly recommend the gift boxes, wrapped in a limited-edition Lush-designed scarf.

Everyone loves a foodie gift, so you can’t go wrong by packing a box of Charbonnel et Walker Champagne truffles or chocolate coffee beans from The East India Company. For your friends who like to travel, this carry-on cocktail kit is great. It gives you everything you need to mix two Old Fashioned drinks on your next trip. Just add booze.

Crumpled Maps (pictured below) make a great gift when travelling, as they’re so lightweight. I first got the idea when my sister sent me a Copenhagen map in the post when she lived in Australia.

My favourite gift to give is a Monica Vinader friendship bracelet (pictured below). This is the luxury, adult version of the kids’ classic. It comes in dozens of colour combinations and can be personalised with a name, initials or even a doodle.

Want to make someone very happy in under five seconds? Give them a pot of La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream. La Prairie is one of the world’s leading skincare brands, and for good reason – this rich cream smooths and softens your skin, leaving it looking fresh and refined (ideal during the colder months). What’s more, BA sells it on board and online, so you can pre-order before you fly and have it delivered to your seat.
