Featuring alongside an all-star cast including Julie Walters and Jim Broadbent, the marmalade-loving bear has returned to the big screen in Paddington 2. Here, the honorary BA Executive Club Member talks to The Club about London hangouts, must-pack items and his travel bucket list

Do you like to travel?
I didn’t enjoy my first journey, stowed away in a ship’s lifeboat from Peru to England. But now I’ve discovered how much quicker it is to fly, I can see places I’ve only ever read about in books.

Where is top of your travel bucket list?
Seville, to see where they grow the best oranges for making marmalade. But if it’s all the same to you, I’d prefer to go by plane. I don’t think I’d be comfortable travelling in a bucket.

What are your three must-pack travel items?
I always carry a photograph of Aunt Lucy. I also like to wear my label in case I get lost – it says ‘Please look after this bear. Thank you’. And, of course, I never go anywhere without a marmalade sandwich under my hat, for emergencies.

Following your most recent adventure around London, what was the most surprising place you visited?
I’ve discovered the Mail Rail (below), a miniature underground system that used to carry letters and parcels under London’s streets. If you visit the Postal Museum in Farringdon you can ride the train. It’s the perfect size for bears.

What advice do you have for someone visiting the UK?
Always check the weather forecast. It won’t help you decide what to wear, because they never seem to get it right, but it will give you something to talk about.

Where do you like to eat in London?
I enjoy eating at home with the Browns most of all, but I once went to Andina in Shoreditch (below). I had the best Peruvian food I’ve tasted since coming to London.

Tell us an interesting fact about darkest Peru.
According to my Aunt Lucy there are 3,800 varieties of potato in Peru. I’ve tried counting them all, but only came up with four – mashed, boiled, roast and fried.

What’s the best thing about being an Executive Club Member?
I didn’t know I was! I asked my friend Mr Gruber what an Executive was and he told me it’s someone important who runs things. Does that mean I can fly the plane next time I go somewhere with British Airways? It looks a bit complicated, but I’m sure I’d soon get the hang of all the switches and buttons.
