Giles Adams, travel entrepreneur and Silver Executive Club Member, describes his perfect holiday retreat and reveals the trouble with being a pilot’s son

What’s your most memorable travel experience?
I spent six months in a subtropical rainforest called Parque Nacional Caaguazú on the Paraguayan border. I was doing conservation work for the Paraguayan government and it was very primitive. One task was to check on the local tribes and some villages took a day and a half to walk to. The villagers found me pretty intriguing.

If you could have a second home anywhere in the world, where would it be?
The French Alps
. It’s great in winter, but many of the mountain towns come alive in summer. From walking and canyoning to rock climbing and rafting, there’s lots to do, and the weather is usually perfect. My dream is to buy a place in the mountains and spend a year there, watching the seasons change.

Where is your ultimate city break?
Nashville, Tennessee. Whether it’s mid-afternoon or 2am there’s a great atmosphere. Try the southern fried chicken at Acme Feed and Seed.

Head to Nashville in Tennessee for the atmosphere, says Giles

What’s your hot tip for travel in 2016?
The ski fields in Japan are trendy right now. Places like Rusutsu, Niseko and Hokkaido get lots of light, fluffy snow, and the après ski is unlike anything else in the world. Who doesn’t want to relax in a hot bath and enjoy fine sake and sushi?

Where are you travelling to next?
I’m taking my parents, wife and children to Bulgaria. My dad’s a former BA pilot, so it was a challenge to find somewhere he’d never been. We’re staying in the Rhodope mountains and plan to ski, relax by the fire and overindulge.

What’s the best thing about being an Executive Club Member?
It’s made me a much better flyer. I’m now very good at arriving two hours before a flight so I can enjoy something to eat and have a drink in the lounge. Before, I’d spend as little time at the airport as possible and would always be rushing to catch my flight.
