Silver Member and Household Account holder Claire Middleton shares her travel highlights and tips on boosting Avios earnings

Why did you join the Executive Club?

I’ve been a member since March 2004. I joined originally because my job at the time meant that I was travelling a lot. I wanted to earn what, back then, was BA Miles (now Avios) and Tier Points because I like travelling with British Airways, and I wanted to get the benefit of being able to earn and redeem Avios on flights in the future.

What’s the best thing about being a Silver Member?

I like that I can use the lounge even when I’m travelling Economy. The Reward Flight Saver for European travel also means that for a relatively low cost and some of my Avios, my husband and I can take an affordable European break.

How does the Household account work?

My husband and I both had individual Executive Club accounts, so our Avios and Tier Points would sit separately. By combining our points into one account, it means we have a higher balance.

Where’s next on your travel list?

We’re saving our Avios for a trip to Australia. We also go to the South of France at least twice a year as we have an apartment in Nice.

What are your top tips for Nice?

My favourite restaurant is Le Grand Balcon in the Old Town. Most people go to the centre of the Old Town, the Cours Saleya, but it’s worth extending your walking tour further up behind the old port where there are some wonderful narrow streets that are a bit undiscovered and have great little bars and restaurants.

What are your recommendations for travellers to your hometown?

Walk through London’s Royal parks. You get to see so much of the city from the green open spaces and avoid the congestion. I would also recommend exploring Bermondsey, where I live. It’s a huge foodie destination and Bermondsey Street has some of the best restaurants in London. Two of my favourites are Spanish sherry and tapas bars José and Pizarro.

Describe your Perfect Day

Firstly, I wouldn’t fly early in the morning. I would start with a lazy breakfast at home and meander to the airport lounge via either Executive Club or Club World check in. Then, of course, I’d turn left once I got on the plane... Whenever I can use my Avios to upgrade, I do. I’d like to head to a completely secluded beach with a luxury lounger and parasol – and my own waiter. There would be no one to talk to apart from my husband, and I would have a day of complete peace and quiet on a lovely beach with an amazing view.

What’s the best way to earn Avios?

I use Gate 365, the online shopping portal on ba.com, all the time. Check the list of stores and buy via them to earn lots of Avios.
