The smart new cards can be used in the same way as the plastic card – plus there are extra features for iPhone and Android users

Executive Club cards go digital

Earlier this month, British Airways Executive Club Members were able to access their membership cards through their smartphones. The new digital cards are available on iOS and Android devices via the BA mobile app and through Executive Club accounts on BA.com.

The smart new cards display your name, membership number and card expiry date as well as your tier. And, just like the plastic cards, they can be used in the same way at check-in, to access lounges (where applicable) and to collect Avios on your High Life shop purchases on board.

Members with the iPhone and Android app can also tap into new updates on the ‘My Account’ page, such as a progress chart showing their current Executive Club membership status and how far until the next tier level. There is also a new option to book flights using Avios, as well as a new process to upgrade your flight using cash (where available).

Plastic cards are still valid for use, though Blue cards have been discontinued in their plastic format – Bronze, Silver and Gold card holders will continue to receive welcome packs and plastic cards in the post.

James Hillier, BA’s global Executive Club manager, said, “Following the success of the new BA app, we know our customers enjoy innovative and intuitive technology that helps them on their journey. So it made sense for the Executive Club cards to go digital.”
