The new British Airways app is about more than just checking in. Gavin Hanly, ba.com and mobile project manager, shares ten ways in which it can help you travel smarter
You can choose your seat, upgrade (where available), email your itinerary to people and add it to your calendar. It will also set a check-in reminder for 24 hours before your flight.
I’m always surprised people don’t realise you can use the digital version throughout the airport. It can completely replace a paper boarding pass, and if your phone battery runs out, a member of staff can print it out for you.
It will store other flight information such as your gate number. Once you check in onto a flight from T5 via the app, ba.com or in person, the app will update the information.
If you have lounge access, you can find the Wi-Fi password in the ‘My Flight’ section beforehand instead of having to ask once you’re there. We will be putting this on the homepage to make it really convenient.
The app gives you information about your destination as you approach the travel date – a few days before you set off, it will display the weather there.
The app remembers your searches and links them to your ba.com account. So if you search for a flight or holiday on your smartphone, it will be stored when you log on to ba.com from your iPad, laptop or desktop (and vice versa). This makes it easier to book trips between devices.
You can also search by destination and class to find the latest prices and cheapest return fares by month.
Executive Club Members can keep up to date with their Avios balance. You can check your tier level, Avios, Tier Points and membership status.
The homepage is designed to tell you what is most important to your journey at that time – it constantly changes and displays new, relevant information and destination images.
No problem – the app isn’t just useful when you are flying. If you are meeting an arriving flight, you can store the information for it on your homepage.
