The nautical trend never fails to bob up when it comes to spring, but this time around it’s in the form of rope detailing rather than the familiar blue-and-white stripe. Fancy dipping a toe in? Throwing shade

Last summer, sunhats wider than a beach parasol cast a long shadow over the summer catwalk. This season’s headwear is neater, sportier and altogether more packable – preppy straw visors keep your face protected, while enabling you to lean back with a good book. We go high

Blame Instagram-savvy reality stars, but swimwear is getting hotter and legs are getting higher. The key to keeping it chic is to choose styles with raised necklines to match a raised legline – such as this belted one piece (£28) from Topshop – which also makes the style surprisingly flattering, too.

If there’s one thing that will instantly add prestige to your holiday wardrobe, it’s luxury sandals. This summer, nearly all the big fashion houses have designed a pair – including these metallic beauties from Valentino (£475) – that go heavy on the branding, announcing your fashion credentials the moment you hit the sand.

To have and to hold

The travel-friendly accessory of the season, the smart men’s belt bag has been seen everywhere from Gucci’s 1980s-inspired edit to Benetton’s fun, sportier styles, recalling the bumbag’s glory days. But before you get excited about safely stowing your currency and passport at your hip, the only way to wear the trend is buckled over one shoulder and across the body.

Kids’ beachwear has long been committed to a theme – sailing-boat prints for boys, florals for girls.
