BA NEWS • June 2020
Flying might not be high on the agenda right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce. If you can’t wait to get back on board, here are simple ways you can bring that British Airways touch to your time on the ground
Gone were the days of mediocre coffee at 35,000 feet, when British Airways decided to join forces with East London roastery, Union Coffee. The partnership, established back in 2018, brought the British coffee brand’s sustainable and slow-roasting practices to the skies. The chocolatey coffee sold on board is exclusive to BA’s cabins and lounges, but its House Blend is the next best thing – sourced from the same small co-operative of coffee farmers in Cajamarca, North Peru, and with the same notes of chocolate and caramel. Collect Avios while you shop Union Coffee via the British Airways Avios eStore here.
For those seeking inspiration in the kitchen, British Airways’ British-inspired menu by pioneering homegrown chef Tom Kerridge offers plenty of food for thought, with a focus on seasonal ingredients that you can snap up right now at home. Originally created to mark BA’s centennial year, his hearty and robust dishes include a starter of salmon tartar and asparagus with egg yolk dressing, a main course of braised pearl barley with wild garlic and smoked chicken, and a chocolate and Amaretto tart for dessert.
Another British Airways’ centenary creation, the BA 100 2015 Blanc de Noirs from award-winning Hampshire winemaker Hattingley Valley is a golden blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes, with a delectable soft mousse and a crisp acidity balanced with red fruit. Until you can once more enjoy the bubbles in a First cabin or The Concorde Room in Heathrow Terminal 5, bring this limited edition fizz home to enjoy on dreamy summer days.
Partnering with The White Company was just one of many steps British Airways took to transform its Club World experience in 2018. The iconic British lifestyle brand brought its luxury bedding and a selection of its decadent skincare products on board to help maximise shut-eye time on long-haul flights. Recreate your own Club amenity kit at home with this Sleep Mist and Eye Mask gift set, which includes a calm-inducing lavender, chamomile and clary sage spritz and super-soft linen eye mask. It’s guaranteed to upgrade to your bedtime ritual.
It started life as a first of its kind creation, brewed on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner at 500mph over the north of Scotland. Speedbird 100, from Scottish craft beer company BrewDog, is the bespoke British Airways beer, designed specifically to adapt to the reduction in taste and smell at high altitudes. And what better way to kick back on a sunny day than with this refreshing BA brew? Or, elevate your next barbeque with the beer that started it all: the universally loved BrewDog’s Punk IPA.
If you think the aircraft seat pocket is only good for safety information, think again. It’s where British Airways’ exceptional in-flight magazine, High Life, has lived since it was first published in 1973. If you’re missing the UK’s longest running customer magazine – which has featured such cover stars as Anthony Joshua, Prince Charles, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Buzz Aldrin, Sophie Turner, Idris Elba and more – then rest easy: you can download past issues here, on the App Store. Thank you, NHS
To recognise and celebrate the NHS for its heroic and ongoing work across the country, the Avios Thank You Appeal will see more than 4,000 members of NHS staff receive 60,000 Avios each to spend as they wish.
Since the appeal began, more than 264 million Avios has been raised – that’s enough to thank 4,400 NHS employees working tirelessly across the UK. This equates to a pair of return flights or a two-night hotel stay in a number of European destinations, but can also be spent on theatre shows, river cruises, free car rental in the UK and more.
Avios Group Ltd is working with more than 250 hospitals, ambulance trusts and other NHS healthcare organisations to distribute Avios later this year. For any Members still wanting to donate their Avios to the appeal, there’s still time. Visit ba.com to find out more.
