Return of the Jeddah
That’s right – we’re going back to the Red Sea. Operated by the Boeing 787 fleet, new direct flights to Jeddah mark our return to Saudi’s second city following a five-year hiatus. The first flight – running four times a week from Heathrow – will depart on 4 November 2024. The relaunched route is ideal for sun seekers and history buffs alike. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this seaside city may surprise you – from diving adventures to delicious Hijazi cuisine, museums, souks, film and food festivals and even the world’s tallest fountain.

Welcome to your refreshed Lagos lounge
A newly renovated airport lounge has just opened in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city. As well as offering a gorgeous new selection of food and drink, it provides a beautiful space to relax and work surrounded by local art. The lounge’s new art collection is designed in partnership with Akoje Gallery –  founded by Khalil Akar and England Rugby star Maro Itoje. Created as a way to nurture new talent, the gallery plans to host annual competitions for local artists, whose winning pieces will be on show to lounge visitors. To celebrate the opening and the first of many showcases, New Beginning features the work of up-and-coming visual artists Olawunmi Banjo, Qozeem Abdulrahman Olaoluwa and Steve Ekpenisi.

‘British Airsleighs’: new flights to Lapland this winter
Just in time for your most memorable winter yet, we’ve announced a new route to Ivalo in the heart of Finnish Lapland. The flights – which launch on 3 December 2024 – will transport travellers to a land of snow-dusted reindeers, winter sports and the elusive aurora borealis via Finland’s most northerly airport. 

Ivalo welcomes visitors from all over the world to the Arctic Circle each year, particularly during the festive period. It’s also the gateway to Saariselkä, a popular resort village. “We are excited about a new addition to our winter schedule, alongside the likes of Innsbruck and Geneva,” says Tom Stoddart, CEO of BA Euroflyer. “Lapland is synonymous with winter and Ivalo is blanketed in snow for a large part of the year, so customers can expect a white Christmas, with some red and blue sprinkled in from British Airways for good measure.”

Ivalo joins Tromsø in Norway, which was recently announced as a new route to join the winter schedule from London Heathrow this December.

Finnair joins the Avios family
Speaking of Finland, we’re delighted to share the news that Finnair – a long-standing member of the oneworld^® alliance – is now part of the Avios family. Finnair Plus has adopted Avios in place of its former ‘awards points’ to open up new redemption and collection opportunities with its fellow Avios-accruing airlines.

Like us, Finnair Plus awards Avios based on monetary spend, and continues to offer Tier Points for movement through the membership Tiers. If you’re a Finnair Plus Member, or decide to become one in the future, you can now link your accounts and move your Avios seamlessly between the two as you wish.

*Savings apply to new bookings made between  20 June 2024  and 23:59 BST 4 July 2024, for travel between 1 October 2024 and 31 March 2025, inclusive. Reward Flight Savers are British Airways’ best value reward flights. Reward Flight Saver offers customers great value flights with a low, flat fee to cover taxes, fees and carrier charges and a fixed Avios amount.
