Welcome to your private paradise: Ibiza Gran Hotel sits on the edge of the sparkling Balearic Sea and offers unmatched views and access to the UNESCO-certified cobbles of Dalt Vila old town. This patch of coast may be flush with superyachts and designer stores, but there’s a warmth to this family-owned hotel and a sweep of special touches that put it a cut above the rest...
You’ve woken up with an appetite: luckily, The Grand Breakfast is just about the most decadent morning dining experience in all of Spain. D.O.P cured meats are hand-carved before your eyes, eggs are dotted with the finest caviar, sweet crêpes are lovingly fried by master pastry chefs, oysters arrive with a dash of Champagne. And, all summer long, you can sidle up to the dedicated avocado station or nurse your morning mimosa to the sound of lovely live Spanish guitar.
After 20 years of working in five-star hotels in Barcelona, Óscar Molina came to Ibiza Gran Hotel in 2008 and the Michelin Guide soon followed. La Gaia by Óscar Molina, the hotel’s hyper-seasonal flagship restaurant, was the first of its kind in Ibiza to obtain a star, and it’s easy to see why. On one extreme, the Balearic black pork is a punchy Iberian powerhouse. On the other, ‘Ibizan meadow’, with apple, flower petals and jasmine tea, is the most delicate thing you’ll ever eat. If you’d rather Italian or Japanese food, just-as-famous Downtown by Cipriani and Zuma will provide.
Debuting this June, the Gran Suite Dalt Vila has had a glow up by Sandra Tarruella – one of Spain’s foremost interior design studios. A balcony to the Mediterranean delivers direct views of the hilltop town of Dalt Vila, which you can also soak up from the private, heated infinity pool. As with its suite siblings – Gran Suite Isla Blanca and Ibiza Luxury Gran Suite – prominence is on an uber-curated art collection (which permeates the whole hotel), sheer and woody tones, and a host of luxury extras, including Bentley transfers and spa access.
A serene spot this may be but, as the light fades, a lavish nightlife scene kicks in, with plenty of glamorous after-dark desirables for anyone wanting to party. For heady cocktails and thumping tunes, make your way within the hotel walls to Club Chinois – a world of laser lights and world-class DJs designed in the image of the famous London nightspot of the same name (which itself took inspiration from Shanghai Supper Clubs of the 1930s). Feeling lucky? End the night like Bond himself at the hotel’s Casino de Ibiza, where red-lipped ‘Ibizan Empresses’ keep a close eye on high-stake game play as the single malts keep coming.
Crystal-clear swimming pools and hazy golden beaches aside, how would your kids like to dive with a National Geographic marine expert, or help out on a local Ibizan farm? For a more low-key group hang, travel by traditional fishing boat out to a secret, hidden beach for a tasty picnic, or even herd your little ones towards the hotel spa, which offers yoga classes for all ages and mini wellness days, to boot.
