The cast of Kinky Boots know how to have a good time

Advertorial • November 2015

Five of London’s liveliest late night hotspots

Where do stars of the West End go once the curtain comes down? The Club catches up with two actors from the hit musical Kinky Boots, Amy Lennox and Killian Donnelly, who share their secret hangouts

Friendliest late night bar
There’s a wonderful Spanish wine bar next to the Adelphi Theatre called The Port House. It’s cosy, with wonderful service and the best selection of Spanish wines and ports. They also do great tapas. Order a copa (large round glass) of premium gin and tonic, and try the chickpeas with black pudding, raisins and pine nuts.

Favourite after-hours restaurant
I love taking people to Balans. Get the Balans burger (with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, dill pickle and red onion on a brioche bun). It’s epic! The Ivy Club next to the Ivy Restaurant is also a must-visit. There’s nothing better than catching up with friends after a show with great live jazz in a relaxed surrounding.

Inset

Kinky Boots is on now at the Adelphi Theatre

A spot of old-fashioned fun
Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes has everything you need for a night out in one venue. Go for the bowling and stay for the food, music and bar. There are also private karaoke rooms, decked out with leather sofas, large TV screens, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lanes. If you’d rather sit back and be entertained, The Hippodrome Casino has a burlesque night once a month, featuring top West End talent.

Trendiest dancefloor
It has to be Freedom for great tunes and cocktails. It’s a prime hangout for West End casts. In need of a sugar kick? Order a Jelly Baby (vodka, Archers and Malibu mixed with grenadine and pineapple juice). If you’re not a big dancer, grab a booth at Be at One near the Lyceum Theatre. They play amazing music and have really friendly staff.

Final pit stop
Chinatown is always a winner after dark, as there’s such a buzzy atmosphere. Pop into Waxy's Little Sister [link: ] for the best Guinness in London in a relaxed setting. For something a bit more upmarket, try and blag your way into The Hospital Club in Covent Garden. It has a games room with a pool table, and a chalk wall to scribble on.

Kinky Boots is on now at The Adelphi Theatre in London, featuring choreography by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Legally Bonde, Hairspray) plus songs by pop superstar Cyndi Lauper. To book tickets, visit kinkybootsthemusical.co.uk
