Dan Price, high-flying co-founder of children’s gift brand My 1st Years, counts Prince George as a client after he wore one of the brand’s personalised dressing gowns to meet Barack Obama. Here, the keen traveller and Executive Club Member tells The Club about his travel experiences both before and after becoming a parent
I always enjoy travelling in Italy. My wife and I spent our first ever Valentine’s Day together in Florence and returned there for our wedding. Afterwards, we took a ‘mini-moon’ around Italy and the Amalfi Coast and visited a town called Alba. We loved it so much, we chose as it as the name of our firstborn, Alba.
Soho House has the art of networking down to a T. I’m in my element when I’m there, speaking to people and finding out how we can help each other’s journeys. All of its London locations have a great vibe. I’m also a massive foodie, so Borough Market makes for the perfect afternoon.
Havana in Cuba (pictured below) is high on my bucket list. The amount of culture, the history, the old-fashioned feel – I like time capsule destinations that transport you to a different world. I’d definitely hire a classic old-school car to go exploring.
It’s unusual for me to fly without my iPad and a couple of business magazines for motivation – Success and Entrepreneur are two of my favourites. And I never forget my toothbrush. As for packing tips, I normally get my clothes dry cleaned then put them straight into my suitcase, still in the plastic. This means they’re always clean and neat when I unpack at my destination.
For those based in the UK, I’d focus on Europe, that way you can always rush back if you need to! You can’t go wrong with Spain or Italy. When we planned our babymoon, we thought about a resort, but, for one last time before parenthood kicks in, it’s best to go somewhere that’s adults-only.
Our first trip with our son was to Florida and it was great. It was part of a work trip to the USA so we also got to explore Orlando and Miami, all of which were very baby-friendly. Plus you have Walt Disney World Resort, which is fantastic for kids of all ages.
I used Avios to book reward flights on our honeymoon. We started in Shanghai, went through the Philippines and flew back from Tokyo (pictured above). All we spent on those flights were the carrier charges. The easiest way I collect is through my British Airways American Express, which converts directly into Avios.
Our backpacks are really popular for family travel, as are our lunch boxes. Of course our backpack with British Airways is obviously my top pick! We teamed up on a limited-edition print and gave away 5,000 or so to passengers in Club and First this summer. It’s big enough to fit in all the essentials and, as with all our products, can be personalised with names, initials – whatever you’d like.
