Winter sun special: Lanzarote’s five-star secret

Moorish Colonial architecture meets Canarian cool – there’s no mistaking the majestic silhouette of Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort against the blue of the Atlantic Ocean. We check into the award-winning hotel, hiding a series of lagoon-shaped pools and top-rate rooms within, to find out more

What about... the location?

On the white sands of Playa Dorada and at the foot of the dormant volcano Montana Roja, Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort holds a picture-perfect spot on the Lanzarote coast. Within walking distance of the village centre and the sports harbour Marina Rubicón, the hotel and Thalasso has stunning sea views of the nine kilometre wide bay below, which offers ideal conditions for swimmers and runners. And the views don’t stop there – a trek up the volcanic mountain range at neighbouring Los Ajaches will reward you with a magnificent panorama across the island and out towards Fuerteventura.

What about... the dining?

It's a diverse story: three buffet and five à la carte restaurants, everything from fine dining Japanese to rustic Italian. But, when it comes to a truly memorable gastronomic experience, Isla De Lobos is the hottest reservation in town. Using only the best and most local ingredients from popular Finca de Uga, including cheese from its dairy, the restaurant’s supreme status was cemented when head chef Gonzalo Calzadilla won Best Chef of the Canary Islands 2019. Go big with the 10-course tasting menu and specially selected wines.

What about... the relaxation?

Calm is king at Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort, whether you’re enjoying the winter sun and sea views from the magnificent Isla de Lobos terrace, or heading inside one of the resort's 50 cabins for an almond-oil massage or coconut-pulp exfoliation. Ultimate indulgence can be found in the Thalasso Center, where therapeutic properties of seawater and other marine elements are used as a cleansing and restorative remedy. There’s also the option of a turquoise seawater pool overlooking the Golden Beach beyond, as well as Turkish baths and a tranquil tearoom.

What about... the facilities?

Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort is home to 385 rooms, furnished in 12 different styles within 55,000 square metres of land – yet this village-like resort still manages to feel charmingly boutique. Outside your room, there’s a gym, a 10,000 square metre children zone and an option of six outdoor swimming pools – two adult pools, a pool for children, as well as two outdoor whirlpools. Plus, one of the adult pools is excitingly accessible through a swimming pool lift. And it’s not only humans that are in on the thrills – Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort is also a five-star, dog-friendly resort.

What about... the rooms?

The hotel’s impeccable style is never more apparent than inside your room, where all interiors marvellously reflect the picturesque location. In the range of exceptional suites, you’ll find original wooden beams, grand archways, and chic stone floors provide a private sanctuary amidst all that pampering and pool time. Our favourite? The Superior Rooms with balcony sea views that are almost too good to be true. If that’s not tempting enough, these rooms include gourmet à la carte breakfast in the Isla de Lobos restaurant.
