ADVERTORIAL • October 2023
The Club breaks down the numbers behind Barclays Avios Rewards – the only current account that accrues Avios no matter how much you spend
That’s the monthly fee Barclays Premier Banking1 customers pay to switch on Barclays Avios Rewards – the same price as a nice bunch of flowers. And while there may be eligibility criteria,2 there is no fee to hold a Premier current account itself. With this kind of account, it’s not just Avios you benefit from, but also a team of dedicated Premier Financial Guides to help you with the important decisions, exclusive products (such as Premier mortgages and savings) and more. Worth it, we’d say!
Speaking of Avios, this is the amount that drops into the account of any Premier Banking customer who opts into Barclays Avios Rewards each month (for a £12 monthly fee). This amount arrives no matter how much or little you spend – unique to all the Executive Club’s Avios-accruing financial partners. Combined, this equals a tasty 18,000 Avios a year – otherwise known as a Reward Flight Saver3 peak return flight in Euro Traveller (+£9) to Milan, Nice, Berlin, Geneva and a host of other short-haul wonders.4
Now this bit is all about the bumper Avios you could get simply for signing up. A whopping 25,000 Avios5 is the perky extra for those who opt into Barclays Avios Rewards within four months of opening their very first Barclays Premier Banking current account – noting that you’ll then need to complete a full switch of your old current account using Current Account Switch Service within three months of joining Barclays Avios Rewards. Et voilà – after four months 25,000 Avios could be all yours.
If you already bank with Barclays, rest assured that there’s something in it for you, too. Existing Barclays customers of four months or more can enjoy an additional 2,500 Avios joining bonus for opting into Barclays Avios Rewards.
This is the big one, otherwise known as the total potential amount of Avios a new joiner could land in just 12 months with Barclays Avios Rewards. It’s the automatic 1,500 monthly Avios amount dropping into your account, combined with the 25,000 bonus Avios received after the fourth month as a new customer. This total amount of Avios opens up a whole new world – and by whole new world, we mean Club Europe – our elite business-class cabin. These 43,000 Avios (plus £9) could whisk you away in Club Europe on a peak Reward Flight Saver return to magnificent Madrid, Lisbon, Venice and more European hot spots.6
Ready for (what might just be) the best perk of all? For every 12 months that you’re with Barclays Avios Rewards, you’ll land yourself an anniversary reward, which can take two spectacular forms. One option available is a cabin upgrade voucher,7 giving you extra legroom in World Traveller Plus, or sky-high luxury in Club or First, making your journey that bit sweeter for no added cost. The other? Even more Avios – 7,000 to be exact. It’s easy to find out more about both in the Barclays app.8
