Win the trip of a lifetime to Barbados

In celebration of 70 years of Barbados on our route network, one lucky Executive Club Member and guest will get to enjoy all the bliss of Barbados on a VIP trip to the sunshine island, courtesy of Visit Barbados

This issue, we and Visit Barbados are giving away the ultimate week in the Caribbean, including World Traveller Plus (premium economy) flights to Barbados from London Heathrow, seven nights at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion in a beachfront suite (breakfast included), plus return airport transfers on the island, a luxury four-hour catamaran cruise and a private island tour – including lunch and a visit to St Nicholas Abbeya Jacobean Great House dating back to 1658.

The island tour will be specially curated for our lucky winner and guest, offering the opportunity to experience Barbados’ contrasting coastlines. Lunch will be either served at Zemi Café on the East Coast, or Local & Co on the West Coast, depending on the time of the tour. A stop off at St Nicholas Abbey, meanwhile, is intended to show off this beautiful house, one of only three Jacobean mansions in all of the Western Hemisphere, which doubles up as a fantastic spot to sample some of the island’s beloved rum...

A pocket guide to Barbados
By Global Learning Academy trainer Kurt Molese

The place to be
On Friday nights, it’s Oistins Fish Fry – a big street party all year round and a local institution. Your fellow patrons include Rohan Marley – Bob Marley’s son – who I met there recently. Top tip: get a scoop of rum and raisin ice cream from the red stall.

The tipsy tour
Mount Gay does fantastic rum tours in St Lucy (on the island’s northernmost tip) with a Bajan spin. You’ll be shown how to drink rum in the proper way, but I’d suggest eating beforehand, as you could get sozzled.

For all the family
Drive inland for a visit to Harrison’s Cave Eco-Adventure Park or embark on a magical underwater experience with Atlantis Submarines in Bridgetown. They run brilliant daytime and night-time tours.

The music mecca
Make the short trip (25-minute walk) north of Bridgetown to the Rihanna Drive Monument, where the famous singer was born and raised. Fun fact: Rihanna gives donations to Barbados hospitals to the tune of $2m every year.

What to pack
Be sure to take plenty of sun cream, a water bottle and a whistle as you dance the day away.
