Courtesy of Panache Cruises, you could be setting sail on Cunard’s iconic Queen Mary 2 – including an extra-special New Year’s stay in NYC
The destination
It’s the place where you can have it all, but never see it all – even if you’ve lived there for decades. That’s the magic of New York.
First-timers shouldn’t miss the New York classics, including admiring unrivalled city views from the 102-storey Empire State Building, wandering Central Park’s 693 acres or witnessing theatre legends at a Broadway show. You can take in the work of influential artists such as Frida Kahlo and Matisse at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), or celeb-spot in the audience of a late night talk show. There’s plenty of architecture to admire, too, from the sky-scraping Chrysler Building to the 1,595ft Brooklyn Bridge and bustling Grand Central Terminal. Style seekers should check out SoHo, The Bowery and Tribeca, while foodies flock to China Town, Little Italy and the West Village.
The cruise
Whatever your New York state of mind, British luxury cruise liner Cunard offers curated adventures on its four glamorous ships. Known for its White Star service and timeless experiences (including everything from afternoon tea specials to decadent evening galas), Cunard has become an icon of the seas. Better yet, its sterling accommodation, fine dining and entertainment come all-included.
Cunard’s ships have sailed between the UK and New York since 1847, and now you can, too, on board the flagship Queen Mary 2 – the only ship regularly to make the transatlantic crossing. Christened by the late Queen Elizabeth II, the elegant vessel has a movie theatre that transforms into the only planetarium at sea, and a Royal Court Theatre with cabaret-style seating.
The prize
Win a transatlantic trip from New York to Southampton, England, for two people, including a £1,000 flight voucher to get you both to the Big Apple, plus a luxury two-night B&B hotel stay (1-3 January 2025) in a Premium Double Room with City Views at the Hotel NH Collection New York Madison Avenue and an eight-night Cunard cruise, worth more than £7,000.
You’ll stay in the Princess Grill suite aboard the Queen Mary 2, departing from New York on the evening of 3 January 2025 and arriving in Southampton on 11 January 2025 (confirmed as being available by Panache Cruises here). Any upgrades, where available, will be subject to an additional fee.
The hotel
The brand’s first property in the US, Hotel NH Collection New York Madison Avenue allows guests to travel back to 1950s New York City, where royal blue velvet sofas, vintage radios and books such as Film Noir adorn the lobby. Its century-old building is in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, within walking distance of some of New York’s most popular attractions (the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, Fifth Avenue, and fifteen minutes away from Times Square and Central Park).
Its mid-century rooms are spacious, with exposed brick and Empire State views, while the moody MAD Bar & Lounge serves Don-Draper approved Old Fashioneds to the smooth sounds of live jazz. You can eat here, too – woodfired pizzas from local-loved Italian restaurant Serafina. The best part, though, is that sublime location: you’re hidden away on a quiet street, but within walking distance of more legendary landmarks like the Rockefeller Center, Broadway theatres and the Chrysler Building.
