Contribute to Sustainable Aviation Fuel and earn Tier Points and Avios

Ready to hear about the first ever way to earn Tier Points without stepping foot on the plane? You can now accrue them (and collect Avios) when you contribute towards Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), making it easier to be rewarded without having to travel at all

We know how important Tier Points are to you as an Executive Club Member. Which is why we’re introducing a new way to earn them – and collect Avios at the same time.

Any contribution you make to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) until 31 March 2025 will reap Tier Points and Avios. It’s an effortless earner that removes the need for travel – and could be the well-timed boost you need to reach that next Executive Club Tier.

What’s more, when you contribute to SAF through our dedicated online tool, you can choose to pay for some, or all your contribution, using Avios.

To break it down, a contribution of £100 or 12,500 Avios will garner ten Tier Points and 1,000 Avios. The maximum amount you can earn through your contribution is 50 Tier Points.

What is SAF?
SAF is sustainable aviation fuel that is either synthetic aviation fuel; aviation biofuel or recycled carbon aviation fuel. SAF can be produced from sustainable feedstocks, such as used cooking oil, woody biomass or orchard and forestry waste.

Using SAF results in a reduction in carbon emissions compared to the traditional jet fuel it replaces over the lifecycle of the fuel. As SAF is similar in chemistry to traditional fossil jet fuel, it can be dropped straight into an existing fuel supply infrastructure and aircraft without modification and is therefore the readiest solution to help decarbonise aviation. It has the potential to provide a lifecycle carbon reduction of more than 80% compared to the traditional jet fuel it replaces.

A major challenge is that SAF availability remains low globally, and today accounts for just over 1% of our total fuel. So, we have committed to fuelling our aircraft with 10% SAF by 2030. Alongside our parent company IAG, which has so far committed $1bn to SAF investments and purchases, we see SAF as one of the key solutions in our transition to net zero. This includes investing in first-of-a-kind SAF plants in the UK and US to scale up the availability of SAF.

BA Better World
We launched our BA Better World programme in September 2021, building on a long track record of attention to aviation sustainability. It marked the beginning of a long-term vision to transform our airline. We said it was our most important journey yet and that remains true today.
