ADVERTORIAL • January 2019
Crete’s north-eastern coast is a meze platter of archaeological troves, provincial hamlets and mountain horizons. Here, sculpted upon the hillside, stands Daios Cove Luxury Resort and Villas - a pantheon of chic design aesthetic and a Grecian beacon of hospitality above the waves. We dip our toe in the water to find out more
It would be difficult to speak of Daios Cove Luxury Resort and Villas without mentioning the cove itself. Here, the surrounding landscape is formed in a stunning concave, giving the azure waters and resort on its shores a feeling of deep privacy. Agios Nikolaos - an arty, sleepy town in on the north-east coast - provides the buzz, while Mirabello Bay offers the glorious horizons and water-sport opportunities. You’ll find sands are white and smooth as silk, the sky a similar shade to the water all year round and the parasols open, waiting for your arrival.
Visitors of Daios Cove can expect a wealth of variety on their menus. Fresh seafood is served from any of five restaurants, all of which feature a sprinkling of Cretan classics. Pangea offers a relaxed vibe and on-show cooking stations; the Beach House is a flavoursome fusion of the Greek and the Orient, while Taverna provides you with a meal overlooking the cove under the shade of the flower vines. To wash down your catch of the day, head to one of three bars - the sleek Crystal Box is Bond-esque under the glow of tasteful chandeliers, while the Ocean Bar turns things tropical with a signature cocktail menu designed to please.
Every head will find the right pillow in Daios Cove. The Deluxe rooms, designed with velvety soft tones and 42 square metres of inside space, are some of the biggest on the island and can be upgraded to a Deluxe Sea View room with an individual pool. Also fantastically spacious, many of the resort’s remaining Suites and Villas come with private pools, heated to perfection in the Villas, and a complimentary upgrade to the Residents Club. What’s more, guests staying in Deluxe Sea View rooms can enjoy €30 of dining credit per night to eat in any of the three à la carte restaurants.
If you want coastal charm and tranquillity, the resort’s wellness facilities are bound to enthral. With options of centered yoga, a wellness boutique offering up skincare steals and even a Styku 3D body scanner, you’re likely to return from this trip looking fabulous and feeling more connected to your body. One treatment area, Spa Cabana, is set up on the veranda so you can feel the sea breeze tickling your feet as you enjoy your hydrating aloe vera body mask and gentle shoulder massage.
Whatever fires your soul, the right activity awaits at Daios Cove. Start with a dip in the heated infinity pool, or the resort’s Water Sports Centre, where you can learn to kayak or rent a private yacht from the staff. Then it’s time for your exclusive scuba diving class (not included in the price, but well worth the trip) taught by expert PADI professionals. After the sun goes down, you’ll find the tennis courts floodlit for your evening showdown and, if you still have energy after, you’ll find no shortage of DJ nights. Best of all? All of the above can be enjoyed without worrying for the kids. Daios boasts a world-class child caring programme, with clubs and activities hosted by UK childcare experts Worldwide Kids Co.
