British Airways American Express® Credit Card now earns invaluable rewards for solo travellers, more USA routes relaunch on our network, plus Peggy and Leon bring their signature fun to Heathrow T5 and the family flick of the summer is revealed…
Our partnership with Minions: The Rise of Gru
Family fun is always high on our airline agenda, and celebrating one of the most eagerly awaited films of the summer, Minions: The Rise of Gru, is no exception. See, long before he becomes the master of evil, Gru (Oscar®nominee Steve Carell) is just a 12-year-old boy in 1970s suburbia, plotting to take over the world from his basement. In this origin story of how the world’s greatest supervillain first met his iconic Minions, this unexpected family join forces and face off against the most unstoppable criminal force ever assembled.
The most exciting scheme of all? We are giving one lucky winner a supervillain gadget bundle, including a tablet, hand-held game console, laser tag set, instant camera and pair of in-ear headphones. Haven’t seen the last two Despicable Me movies? You can catch up on your next long-haul journeys via our in-flight entertainment service. See Minions: The Rise of Gru in cinemas now.
Companion Vouchers open to solo travellers
Two is not always better than one. Sometimes solo jetsetters have just as much fun, especially now that they can enjoy new benefits from their Companion Vouchers.
Cardmembers who have earned a Companion Voucher since September 2021 on either their British Airways American Express® Credit Card or their British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Card can redeem it when booking a solo trip, receiving a 50 per cent discount on the Avios cost of the booking. However, fear not if you still prefer to double up – this is an additional option and Cardmembers can still use the Companion Voucher to travel with a friend. Find out more here.
A new Skyflyers lounge comes to Heathrow
Travelling families flying from Heathrow this summer can experience an all-new Skyflyers lounge, featuring toys and games from Hamleys, the world’s oldest toy store. Now open within the Club South Lounge, parents should look out for more Skyflyer lounges rolling out across Heathrow soon. Over at Gatwick, families can make memories before boarding alongside our Skyflyer mascots Peggy and Leon. The adorable adventurers are known for hopping out of our Coat of Arms, and this summer they’ll be popping up in departures, so keep a look out for them.
First direct route from London to Portland, plus Pittsburgh relaunch
Portland is now on the list of our flights from 26 US cities to and from London. Not only are we the only airline to offer direct flights from the funky, foodie and forested city, but the new route will open an expanse of other connections, giving travellers the chance to explore all of the USA’s epic west coast. We’ve also relaunched our Pittsburgh route (pictured above), remaining the only airline to offer a direct flight from the Pennsylvanian city to and from London. Both routes are operated by one of our newest aircraft, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
